Development Officer appointment

Max Buttinger has elected to become the LKA’s new development officer. Based in Harrow, Max has been heavily involved in the creation of Harrow Vultrix and has been successful in obtaining several grants for the LKA over the last year.

England Korfball Teachers Award

The England Korfball Association have announced the launch of the Teaching Children Korfball course. This is an introductory course designed for aspiring and current teachers with little or no experience of korfball working in both primary and secondary school environments.

Avon Tyrrell coaching course and summer camp 2014

The annual BKA Avon Tyrrell coaching course and summer camp will be held between 2-9 August this year. Avon Tyrrell is a residential centre in the New Forest, Hampshire. Both events last all week.

The coaching course is for anyone who wishes to acquire coaching skills for teams playing competitive korfball. A coaching qualification is available for those who successfully complete the course. More details can be found here.

The summer camp is open to all young people aged 10 to 16 years. Younger children can also go providing they have a parent at the camp. More details can be found here.

Trojans are the England Korfball League champions

Congratulations to Trojans on winning the England Korfball League final on Sunday 27th April at Whitgift School in Croydon. In a pulsating final, they defeated Bec 18-17 with a golden goal from David Brooks in extra time. It was a fantastic match – well done to both teams!

Well done as well to Nomads who finished third by defeating Norwich Knights 25-17 in the 3rd/4th play-off.


The LKA AGM will take place as follows:

If you have any proposals, please send them to Morven Masterton ( by Saturday 19th April 2014. The committee will then have a week to review any proposals before they are sent to clubs.

There is one vacancy on the committee – Development Officer. The LKA is also looking to fill the non-committee position of Fixtures Secretary which is required to create the fixture list for the season. Please ask around your club to see if anyone would like to take on these positions. If so, please email Karen Palfreyman (

LKA affiliation fees also have to be paid at the AGM. The affiliation fee is £35 per club. If you wish to pay by cheque, please make this payable to “London and District Korfball Association”.

A meeting of the LKA Competitions sub-committee will take place prior to the AGM at 10am in the same location. All clubs are expected to send a representative to this meeting. We will provide hot drinks for meetings but do feel free to bring lunch with you if you plan to attend both.

National Youth Day – 29 June

National Youth Day will be held at Club Langley, Beckenham on Sunday 29th June. The LKA will be running the event and require volunteers to help out. Volunteers are needed to referee, run the desk and to help with the provision and transportation of equipment. If you are interested, please contact Karen Palfreyman at

Big turnout for juniors event in Croydon

19 teams were at the LKA juniors event at Royal Russell School on 16th March. 11 under 9 teams, 5 under 11 teams and 3 under 13 teams were in action.

A fantastic turnout – well done everyone!

England Korfball club accreditation scheme – volunteers required

England Korfball are looking to create a working group of volunteers to design, develop and launch a club accreditation scheme. This group will lead the way in developing and growing the sport of korfball in England by supporting its existing clubs to develop, promote and increase participation in korfball.

Junior inter-area results

Teams from London and Harrow were in action at the EKA junior inter-area championships last weekend.

On the Saturday, the under 14 and under 19 teams competed. In the U14 event, London A finished second behind winners Kent, with Harrow finishing 5th and London B 6th. The Under 19s competition saw London again finish second behind Kent with Harrow 4th.

Sunday saw the under 11s and under 16s in action. The London U11s finished 4th with Harrow finishing 6th. In the U16s, London finished 3rd with Harrow 4th.

Well done to all the players, organisers and coaches and thanks to Harrow Vultrix for again hosting the tournament.

Lisa Swain, England squad manager and LKA Child Protection Officer, was on Radio Jackie, a radio station in South London, promoting korfball this week. Well done Lisa!
