Heather Bowden

Sadly, we have to report the following message from Bec:

“It is with deep sadness that we report the passing of one of our BecBees Heather Bowden, along with her mum Emma Bowden, Emma’s fiancé Richard Cousins and his two sons Will & Edward Cousins who passed away after a seaplane crash on New Year’s Eve in Sydney, Australia. Heather was 11 years old and joined our club just over a year ago.

Davesh Patel, Bec junior officer, commented: “Heather’s eagerness to just get involved and have fun was ever present. Never without a smile on her face, she will be dearly missed and our thoughts and condolences go out to her family and friends.

Everyone at the club shares Dav’s sentiments and our thoughts go out to all those affected by this terribly sad news.”

Everyone at the LKA would like to express our sympathies to everyone who knows Heather and her family and to all at Bec.

London U19s win silver medal at the inter-area tournament

The London U19s have won the silver medal at the inter-area tournament held in Maidstone, Kent on Saturday 2nd December. In the tournament, the London team had victories over Cambridgeshire and Norfolk and a defeat against the eventual winners Kent.

Coach Davesh Patel said:

“The event was very well run and organised. I was extremely proud of the players and the way they performed. They showed great mental strength in some key situations and this allowed the players to keep their composure and get the results against Cambridge and Norfolk. The fixture against Kent was always going to be tough but we took the game to them taking a 6-3 lead and evidently surprised our opposition – I think it would be fair to say we “ruffled a few feathers”. Ironically, despite the eventual loss, the game against Kent was arguably our best all-round team performance. All in all a great day and I would say coming away with the Silver medal was an achievement to be proud about.

London korfball is going through a stage of regeneration with the number of junior participants starting to rise once more. If we can keep that going and combine this with some more regular county training I think this will stand us all in good stead for future tournaments.”

Well done to all the players, coach Davesh and manager Lisa Swain!

LKA juniors tournament – 10 December

Well done to all involved!

London U11 squad announced

Here’s a message from the London U11 squad organisers:

“Firstly, we would like to thank you for bringing your child along to trial for the u11 London squad which will be playing in Harrow on Sunday 21st January 2018.

The level of Korfball being played on Saturday was very high, and the children should all be extremely proud of the effort that they have put in.

Unfortunately the process of having to let children and parents down is not very nice, but I hope you all respect our decision that we are trying to do the best for the squads that we are putting in.  Thankfully this year we have again been allowed to put in two teams, as having to only take a single team squad from the 32 that trialled would be awful.

We will therefore be taking the following children to the tournament to represent the London Squad:

Naia Chugh – Trojans

Isabel Grace King – Hayes

Niamh Sutherland – Hayes

Sienna Moore – Bromley

Emi Patel – Bromley

Emily Walker – Bromley

Kushala Karunaratne – Bromley

Megan Talbot – Nomads

Libby Thomas –  Nomads

Millie Walsh – Nomads

 Brandon Pang – Trojans

Lewis Court – Bromley

Charlie Pickup – Bromley

Jack Davis – Bromley

Jack Wisbey – Hayes

Joe Wisbey – Hayes

Oliver Warren – Hayes

Woody Holden – Hayes

Caleb Keith – Hayes

Brayden Russell – Hayes

James Rampling – Hayes

Jack Walsh – Nomads

Jack Talbot – Nomads

Oskar Gromadka – Nomads

As mentioned we have 2 further training sessions set up on 9th December and 13th January – these will be crucial to getting the squad more practiced and working as teams so we hope that all those selected will be able to attend.

Well done again to all the children that took part Saturday and we look forward to seeing them in competitions throughout the year.

For those that have been selected please can you respond via email to accept your child’s position in the team and provide a mobile telephone number for each parent for contact purposes.

 Thank you

 Claire, Karen & Natalie”
