London U11 squad announced

Here’s a message from the London U11 squad organisers:

“Firstly, we would like to thank you for bringing your child along to trial for the u11 London squad which will be playing in Harrow on Sunday 21st January 2018.

The level of Korfball being played on Saturday was very high, and the children should all be extremely proud of the effort that they have put in.

Unfortunately the process of having to let children and parents down is not very nice, but I hope you all respect our decision that we are trying to do the best for the squads that we are putting in.  Thankfully this year we have again been allowed to put in two teams, as having to only take a single team squad from the 32 that trialled would be awful.

We will therefore be taking the following children to the tournament to represent the London Squad:

Naia Chugh – Trojans

Isabel Grace King – Hayes

Niamh Sutherland – Hayes

Sienna Moore – Bromley

Emi Patel – Bromley

Emily Walker – Bromley

Kushala Karunaratne – Bromley

Megan Talbot – Nomads

Libby Thomas –  Nomads

Millie Walsh – Nomads

 Brandon Pang – Trojans

Lewis Court – Bromley

Charlie Pickup – Bromley

Jack Davis – Bromley

Jack Wisbey – Hayes

Joe Wisbey – Hayes

Oliver Warren – Hayes

Woody Holden – Hayes

Caleb Keith – Hayes

Brayden Russell – Hayes

James Rampling – Hayes

Jack Walsh – Nomads

Jack Talbot – Nomads

Oskar Gromadka – Nomads

As mentioned we have 2 further training sessions set up on 9th December and 13th January – these will be crucial to getting the squad more practiced and working as teams so we hope that all those selected will be able to attend.

Well done again to all the children that took part Saturday and we look forward to seeing them in competitions throughout the year.

For those that have been selected please can you respond via email to accept your child’s position in the team and provide a mobile telephone number for each parent for contact purposes.

 Thank you

 Claire, Karen & Natalie”

London U19s finish third in the inter-area tournament

The London U19s finished third in the inter-area tournament held in Croydon on Sunday 30th April. London were victorious over Norfolk 1 and Norfolk 2 but were beaten by Kent and Cambridgeshire.

Coach Ben Rivers has kindly provided a summary as follows:

“A mixed day or results on Sunday with 2 wins and 2 losses. The team played well in parts but were beaten by superior shooting and movement against a strong Kent team whilst Cambridge always managed to stay ahead of us. Dispatching both Norfolk teams was pleasing and an improvement on last year. With the majority of the team playing next year there’s a good chance the title will return to London.”

Well done to all the players and thanks to coach Ben, manager Lisa Swain and all the people who helped out or refereed on the day.

Under 19 inter-area tournament report

The London U19s were in action at the inter-area tournament in Kent on Sunday 24th April. A report from coach Ben Rivers is below. Thanks to everyone who played or helped out!

Following last year’s success, London u19s headed to Kent to defend their title. The majority of last year’s team had reached an age meaning they could no longer participate which gave the team a new feel and the chance for some players to step up.

The first match was a repeat of the top two last year, Kent vs London. The game started positively for Kent with them scoring 3 goals to 1 in early stages. However as the half wore on it was London who upped the scoring ante and at half time scores were level. The 2nd half continued with London on top leading to a 7-5 scoreline in favour of London. A timeout was called to ensure London focused on to the end of the match with their lead intact. Unfortunately London couldn’t quite hold on with Kent finding their shooting from range and pulling out a 4 goal lead by the end of the match. A disappointing loss but some good performances especially on the defensive end against two of the strongest boys in the competition.

The rest of the games would now need to be won to ensure a passage into the final.

The 2nd game was against a well drilled Cambridge side boasting some very talented young players. It was a high scoring and tense encounter! Unfortunately Cambridge in the end ran out 13-12 despite again London leading well into the 2nd half. On this occasion it wasn’t Cambridge who found their long range shooting but London whose penalty taking had deserted them. This result made it now very tough for London to reach the final.

The next match was a chance to gain a first victory against a plucky South Midlands team who despite their smaller stature had scored some very good goals against all the teams. The first half took a while to get going with both teams playing slow korfball and the scores being close at half time. The 2nd half London finally awoke and begin to move at speed. In the end London ran out winners but not by the margin many had thought it might be.

The final match would take place against Norfolk who would be looking to secure a place in the final with the victory. The game took a similar pattern to the games throughout the day. High quality goals were scored and any mistakes were  punished. Again London had built a slender lead by midway through the 2nd half. Unfortunately as per previous games the lead couldn’t be held and Norfolk triumphed by 2 goals.

A tough day for London as in all games we had victory in our hands but didn’t convert those winning positions. As ever a great team performance from the whole squad with every player contributing in attack and defence.

Big thanks to Lisa and the support hopefully next year my winning touch can return.

Special mention goes to impressive captain Chloe Swain! Mark and Billy should be proud of their performances throughout the day more than matching the best opposition boys. Whilst Eva also performed admirably in attack and defence despite sporting an injured quad.  Also to Ellis who in one match scored 5 goals, 1 penalty and 1 free pass.
